Fr. Solanus Casey, OFM, Cap. (1870-1957)
EXTRAORDINARY is an 1 hr 13 min television special on the extraordinary ministry of Fr. Solanus Casey, a Capuchin Franciscan friar. The program consists of 11 stories told by 22 children about Fr. Solanus' ministry to children and their families, some during the darkness times of the American Depression.
A humble man who was never given full priestly faculties by the Church, Fr. Solanus became the monastery doorkeeper. As such he would counsel and pray with those that came to him. He encouraged his guests to pray, thank God ahead of time, and do good works for others as a demonstration of their faith and gratefulness. His most famous saying is carved on his oak crypt at Detroit's Solanus Casey Center: "Blessed be God in All His Designs." So many healings and graces surrounded his ministry that during his life he was referred to as "Detroit's Miracle Worker."
