SWC FILMS MEDIA PROJECTS HOME

Surprising Discoveries - Change the World

SWC Films is a small independent production company owned by Stan Williams. Historically the company has produced corporate and religious media products for itself and a few select clients. Currently we are attempting to develop a slate of low budget, independent mainstream motion pictures while providing story consulting support to filmmakers at all levels.

The limited on-line reference to our past and current work is below. The story consulting site is HERE.

MICHIGAN FILM PRODUCTION INCENTIVES

The State of Michigan currently offers qualified film projects 40-42% production rebate incentives. Here are some useful links.

IN DEVELOPMENT

White continuing to be involved in Story Consulting with our L.A. and Michigan clients, we are also developing a slate of mainstream feature screenplays based upon the success criteria of classic story theory -- best articulated by these authors, some of whom are occasional work associates:

Dr. Stanley D. Williams
THE MORAL PREMISE: Harnessing Virtue and Vice for Box Office Success

Dr. Dara Mark
INSIDE STORY: The Power of the Transformational Arc

Michael Hauge

Christopher Vogler
THE WRITER'S JOURNEY: Mythic Structure for Writers (Third Edition)

Michael Hauge and Christopher Vogler (DVD and CD set)
THE HERO'S TWO JOURNEYS

Lajos Egri
THE ART OF DRAMATIC WRITING

These books and their Hollywood story consultant authors, emphasize that the only successful films are those that are built upon true value-based premises where the moral decision making of the characters leads to natural consequences familiar to audiences. That is, the story's connection with the audience is first on the characters' psychological or inner journey, which must drive naturally the outward or physical action. What is seen and heard on the screen, therefore, becomes a metaphor for what the movie is really about -- the characters' emotional or spiritual arc.

If filmmakers ignore this foundational principle, their stories are doomed at the box office, as so many films with top writers, directors, actors, and budgets experience -- they are empty shells of action that are not about the values that affect the lives of audiences. But if these principles are consistently applied to each character, scene, and dramatic beat, thus illuminating all the other techniques brought to the craft, the story telling will be empowered and it will deeply connect with audiences.

A business plan, log lines, synopses, and screenplays are available to qualified partners.
